Children's Rehabilitation Services

Children's Attendant Care

Children's Attendant Care workers provide one-on-one service to:

  • Improve behaviors and social skills of children/youth up to the age of 18.
  • Give emotional support and guidance.
  • To qualify for services a child/youth must be diagnosed with a serious emotional
    disturbance (SED) and be receiving community based mental health case management.
  • Fees/method of payment - Medicaid and Self-Pay.
  • 8 AM to 8 PM., every day except designated agency holidays.
  • The Children's Attendant Care program is CARF accredited.

Children's Case Management

Children's Case Management staff work with children and youth who have been diagnosed with a mental health condition which significantly disrupts their ability to function successfully at home, in the school, or in other community locations.

  • The child/youth must be Medicaid eligible in order to qualify for our services. If the child/youth doesn't have a medical card, then staff will identify how you can obtain one through a waiver. The child/youth must meet certain criteria.
  • Typical hours are Monday -Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. - Except designated agency holidays.
    However, case managers may work with clients before or after hours depending on the needs of the child/youth and their family.
  • For additional information please call 316-685-1821 ext. 243. Staff will guide you through the remaining referral process into case management. If staff doesn't think the child in question will qualify, she will refer you to other community resources.

Life Academy - Children's Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PR)

Life Academy encourages participants to set and work toward personal goals that maximize self-independence and future success.  Expected outcomes include development of coping strategies to enhance communication with peers and a decrease in behaviors that negatively impact the level of functioning.  Groups are facilitated to assist children and youth with improving social skills, building positive peer relationships, improving ability to problem-solve, promotion of health, leisure time training and behavior management.  Children/youth in Life Academy work on a variety of skills needed for good mental health and successful community living.  Utilizing a 1:4 staff/child ratio, groups are provided in a variety of settings where trained staff assist participants to work on skills to gain social competencies. 

Additional Service:

Rebound is a short-term out-of-school suspension program designed to provide a one-on-one structured and therapeutic environment for youth who have been suspended from school and to help prepare them for a successful return.  This is not a supplemental academic program.  Modules Utilized: Addressing behaviors leading to suspension, behavior/anger management and social skills, academic assistance, volunteerism, and transition back to school.

To qualify for services:

  • Youth must meet the criteria of Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
  • Youth must meet medical necessity criteria for rehabilitation services.
  • A Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) will determine that psychosocial rehabilitation services are appropriate and there is the potential for the member to benefit from these services.
  • Services are accessed through a referral process initiated by the local CMHC, Comcare, and in conjunction with the assigned Case Manager.
  • Must be receiving case management services at Comcare or the Mental Health Association.
  • Must be at least 5 years of age and have started kindergarten and no older than the age of 18.
  • Daytime PR - Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 5:00pm.
  • PRG evening night groups - Monday - Friday - 4-8pm.
  • Day program events are offered at various days/times throughout the year. 
  • Direct care events may be scheduled at flexible times that meet the needs of persons served.
  • Service provision is limited to youth who have Medicaid or who are Medicaid eligible.
  • The program is CARF accredited and licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environmental Services.
