Memberships
One of the easiest ways to support the MHA is through membership.
Individual memberships are only $50 per person.
It is the activism of mental health consumers, family members, and other concerned Americans that will change our nation's attitude toward people who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Your membership shows your commitment to help eliminate the stigmas associated with mental health.
In appreciation you will receive:
- a quarterly Mental Health Association newsletter
- mental health announcements throughout the year
- mental health brochures upon request

Special Events/Sponsorships
The Mental Health Association conducts an annual Monopoly tournament and the proceeds benefit the Compeer Lunch Buddies mentoring program for at-risk youth. Volunteers and sponsorships are always needed to ensure the event is a success. Without these two elements there can be no event and ultimately no Compeer Lunch Buddies program.
If you would like to learn more about the Monopoly tournament, please call 316-685-1821 ext. 246.
Methods of Giving
Gifts of Cash:
Gifts of cash are always appreciated and can be designated to specific program(s) upon request.
Gifts of Stock/Bonds/Mutual Funds:
Gifts of stocks or bonds are always welcomed and can provide income tax deduction opportunities especially in the area of capital gains tax. Your local broker or legal expert can help you conduct this simple transaction.
Gifts of Property:
Gifts of property are always welcomed and can also provide you with a significant tax deduction. Gifts of property include real estate, residence and/or personal property. Please consult a tax advisor or legal expert to learn about the immediate tax benefits.
Gifts of Insurance:
Often gifts of insurance are overlooked but this is a unique way to support the Mental Health Association by naming us as a beneficiary. Premium payments can be tax deductible, and reduce estate taxes, depending upon tax guidelines. To learn more about this unique opportunity, please consult a legal expert.
Honorary Gift(s):
Donations to the Mental Health Association may be the most appropriate way to celebrate a special occasion or honor the accomplishments of someone close to you. Please consider making this meaningful gift. This can be accomplished online, by telephone and/or mail.
In Kind Gift(s):
In kind donations are welcomed year round. Donations of clothing, household items, appliances, toys, furniture, etc. are truly appreciated. Persons making an In-kind donation will receive an acknowledgement for tax purposes.
Matching Gift(s):
Thousands of companies - small and large - have Matching Gift Programs that double or even triple individual, tax-deductible donations made by employees. These programs are an easy way to maximize the benefit of your generous donation.
Like you, most companies already donate a portion of their income to charitable organizations, both for the tax benefits they receive and to help the causes they believe in. Therefore, please check with your company to determine if they have a matching gift program. Matching Gift Programs allow YOU to direct your company's philanthropic resources to help the causes you already support.
Memorials:
The death of a friend or family member is a time of grief, remembrance and recognition. Our organization can help you establish a memorial fund honoring your loved one. You can establish a memorial via the telephone or by mail. In appreciation MHA will provide:
- Memorial cards upon request
- A list of names of donors so you can send a personalized thank you.
- The name of the deceased will be added to the MHA memorial plaque at our office, and the Mental Health Association will mail each donor a letter thanking them for their contribution honoring your loved one.
The loss of a loved one can be extremely overwhelming. If you would like to receive information on "grieving" or "coping with the loss of a loved one" please call 685-1821.
Holiday Support
The Mental Health Association also prepares a holiday dinner for adult consumers utilizing our services. A consumer is and adult who has been diagnosed with a severe mental illness. Approximately 100 - 125 people participate in this holiday tradition each year.
If you or your company are interested in donating non-perishable items and/or turkeys at Thanksgiving, please call 685-1821, ext. 246.
Christmas: (Adopt-A-Family Program)
If you or your company would like to adopt a family during the holidays please call 685-1821, ext. 246. You will receive a profile sheet identifying the number of family members, their ages, specific needs of the family and a wish list.Profile sheets are distributed the second week in November. People participating in the Adopt-A-Family program have a family member who has been diagnosed with a mental illness, meets low income guidelines and is utilizing our services. The holidays can be a difficult time of the year for families requesting assistance and they are extremely grateful for the help and/or generosity from others. If you don't have time to shop, staff would be happy to assist you upon receipt of funding. Due to HIPPA regulations, names of families must remain confidential.
Clothing/Toys at Christmas:
There are many children who participate in our programs that receive nothing/or have a minimal Christmas. Unfortunately, the Agency has a limited number of families it can help during the holidays. If possible, we try to provide caregivers with limited resources, the opportunity to pick out one toy or clothing item per child for Christmas.
