Elder Abuse Prevention

TRIAD Council of South Central Kansas

Adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly and dependent adults is a growing concern in our community. It is estimated that 10% of elders are abused which means over 7,000 seniors in the Sedgwick County area may be facing victimization. Increasing community awareness is the first step in preventing this attack on our vulnerable adults.

  • The TRIAD Council is a community partnership with the mission of providing all seniors, living in our community, a lifestyle of wellness that reduces vulnerability and protects them from abuse while providing for their wellness, safety, and independence.
  • Its vision is to provide each senior a lifestyle that is free from fear and safe from abuse.
  • The TRIAD Council and its members have provided elder abuse education to over 5,000 law enforcement officers, 100 banks, and 5,000 seniors statewide.
  • It currently sponsors Elder Abuse Awareness Week in June and is an active participant in the Sedgwick County F.A.S.T. team and the Mid-Kansas Senior Outreach Program.
  • Everyone can help protect vulnerable elders from all types of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. As a concerned citizen, you can:
    • Become informed
    • Become aware
    • Become involved
    • Become an advocate
  • The Triad Council is recognized by the National Elder Abuse Center as a promising practice.
