Turning it around

A 14 year old came to MHA in February, 2015 for an assessment after getting into trouble at school for having marijuana in his possession and getting expelled. He began treatment, attending groups 1-2 times each week and having weekly individual sessions. He was open, honest, funny and always willing to learn something new. Shortly after treatment began, he was placed on probation for 6 months. At that time, the Judge told him that he could have been sent to live at JRF and placed on probation until the age of 18 due to the amount he had in his possession. However, he was given a second chance; if he maintained sobriety and graduated from his program he would be free of probation in 6 months. He successfully completed groups in May and has continued his weekly individual sessions, completing the program in early August. During those six months he maintained sober, had clean urine analysis and stayed away from negative peers. He is continuing with case management and meets regularly with a Big Brother mentor. This is just one example of how intervention can make a significant difference in the life of an individual. We see great things for this young man in his future!
