SEMINAR FEES WAIVED FOR BANKERS
Program Description:
Bankers’can assist in protecting their most loyal customers, seniors. The National Center on Elder Abuse estimates that over 12% of our elders are the victims of investment fraud. This workshop will explore the complex nature of financial fraud of elders and provide for bankers factual information on how to identify and provide assistance to seniors who are in danger of financial and/or fiduciary fraud. The workshop will describe how retiring seniors can be scammed out of their retirement funds and it will discuss issues such as mandated reporting, confidentiality, and powers of attorney to provide for the professional banker a working knowledge of elder financial abuse.
The workshop will provide a first hand account on how Sarah Flohr, a trust officer at Cowlitz Bank, discovered the embezzlement of a half-million dollars from an elderly couple and then proceeded to assist in the referral, investigation and eventual criminal resolution of the case. She will discuss in detail the important role that banks can serve in identifying and advocating for their elderly customers.
Ruth Mitchell, a senior advocate, will relate how her husband and herself were scammed out of $100,000 of their retirement funds. She will discuss how she struggled with depression and frustration after the scam, until she came to the realization one day – “He’s winning, he not only stole our money, he’s stealing my health.”
The conference will also present Dr. Stephen Benson who will provide step-by-step instructions on how to more effectively communicate with the elderly to assist the banker in the facilitation of the senior’s banking business.
In addition, elder financial fraud case studies will be presented by financial fraud experts from Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner (KSC), and Wichita Police Department to provide a comprehensive view of the investigation and prosecution of Kansas con artists.
This is a must see workshop for bankers who are working to meet the financial/investment needs of their aging customers.
