Teen Outreach Girl Empowerment Program
The Teen Outreach Girl Empowerment Program utilizes the research-based Girls Circle model program. The curriculum addresses the community, school, family, peer and individual risk factors in a way that is meaningful and effective with girls. The curriculum is designed so that girls are empowered to express themselves in a non-judgmental environment. It also addresses self-esteem, body image, relationships, diversity, resisting alcohol and drugs, and other protective factors. Girls identified as needing additional support services due to these factors will be assessed and placed in a GEP group at the site. Girls enrolled at a traditional middle school site will be referred by the Communities In School coordinator, truancy officer, counselor, social worker or school administrator. Students that attend a community site can be referred by a parent, probation officers, program staff, or other social service agency. Each child will be assessed for risk level and placed in an appropriate group depending upon risk and age.
