Program Description: This conference is designed to help participants understand the vulnerabilities experienced by seniors which increases their susceptibility to elder abuse and other crimes and also their reluctance to reporting these crimes. Participants will gain skills in identifying and reporting elder abuse crimes; interview and investigation techniques, and how to prepare for successful prosecution of the offender. Break-out sessions will address utilizing community wide awareness/education initiatives and the use of community resources to improve the ability of seniors to live safely in the community.
After attendance at the conference, participants will be able to:
a. Identify issues which place seniors at risk for victimization.
b. Define types of elder abuse and current societal trends which have impacted the type and incidence of abuse.
c. Verbalize appropriate interview and investigation techniques for working with seniors.
d. Recognize resources which improve the ability of the senior to live successfully in the community.
e. Apply concepts to practice.
